Rome, Ga. - After an amazing
11 races on the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship circuit, rookie Cody Cooper
rode his Pirelli Scorpion MX tires to a season-best second place finish at
Motocross 338 in Southwick, Mass. Class veteran, John Dowd, a local to the
Southwick confines, finished sixth overall on Pirelli tires. Jeff Alessi
continued his consistent streak finishing seventh overall.
"We are
extremely proud of Cody," said Josh Whitmire, Pirelli's MX Manager.
"He's had an incredible season this summer, and he raised the bar this
weekend with his second-place finish. The final round of the season takes place
this weekend at Steel City, and we look forward to him having another great race."
Earlier this
summer Cooper scored his first podium finish of the season at Unadilla Valley
Sports Center, finishing third overall with 5-2 results. This summer he has
finished within the top 10 at eight races and currently sits fifth in series
points standings.
Dowd, who has
not raced on the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship circuit this summer,
finished 9-5 on the day. Alessi, who is a privateer for the Moto XXX Honda
team, earned his eighth top-10 finish of the summer with 8-8 results.
"It's
pretty amazing what John did in the sand at Southwick," said Whitmire.
"It was his only race of the summer, and he finished seventh, which is a
testament to his sand skills."

Dowd Announces He Will Race The 2007 AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Series |
7/14/2007 |

Los Angeles, CA (July 12, 2007) - John Dowd has announced today that he is scheduled to attend
all three rounds of the AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Series. Dowd, a former
AMA Motocross champion, placed first at the 2006 Maxxis EnduroCross after a
very close battle with Monster/Kawasaki's Nathan Woods. In 2005, Dowd finished
second behind KTM's David Knight. Both years Dowd proved that his motocross
skills, combined with years of trail riding in the Northeast, made for the
perfect combination to conquer the technical EnduroCross track.
"EnduroCross is just a crazy event," explained Dowd, the
current EnduroCross Champion. "It's one of those races where you just
never know how you are going to end up. You can have the lead one moment and
lose it the next. To win all three events in the series will take quite a bit
of skill and a lot of luck, but I'm up for the challenge."
The 2007 AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Series starts in Denver,
Colorado on September 29. It then moves to Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 6 with
the final round inside the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on November 16 & 17.
The three race series will boast a $40,000 total purse payout, which includes
individual purses for each event, along with a $10,000 Maxxis EnduroCross
Series fund paid out to the top riders in the series. Scoring for each race
will be similar to that of an AMA supercross with points earned based upon the
riders finishing position. The Las Vegas round will serve as a Double Points
event... the overall winner of the series will be crowned the AMA EnduroCross
Champion. In addition to the Expert class, there are four amateur classes
available to compete in - these classes will also be awarded individual AMA #1
plates.
The website for the AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Series has
been completely updated with entry forms, schedules, information about the
events and the purse schedule. Each race venue is limited to 200 riders, so
those serious about this championship series are encouraged to sign up early.
All the information can be found on line at www.endurocross.com.
